For many homeowners, their kitchen serves multiple functions.  It is a gathering place.  It is a spot for preparing and cooking meals.  At other times, it is a place where meals are eaten and relaxation occurs.  Kitchen bar stools are where we sit when doing these things.  Therefore, it is important to choose the right kitchen stools. Kitchen bar stools are a lot better than chairs when it comes to the kitchen.  The reason is because the counter top is so high, that a chair wouldn’t be at the right height.  A stool has longer legs, which let you sit at the same height as the counter.  This lets you eat, cut vegetables, read a book, or chat while resting on the counter.

There are a few different materials that stools for the kitchen are made from.  Some are made from metal, usually stainless steel.  Others are made from wood.  Most wooden kitchen bar stools are made from oak, cherry, or another type of hardwood.  Wooden bar stools need to be made strong and sturdy in order to support heavy weight.  Metal kitchen bar stools do have one advantage.  They are usually adjustable.  Unlike the majority of wooden stools, metal ones have a lever that you can press to adjust their height.  This is a great feature because not all people sit at the same level.  Some like to be higher than others.

When it comes to the actual design of the kitchen bar stools, there are many, many choices available.  Some of them look just like chairs, only they are a lot taller.  Others are simply a round disk of wood to sit on.  There are some stools that have armrests, so you can relax in them just as you would a nice chair.  You can even find a type of stool with what is called a “saddle seat”.  These stools have longer seats that are recessed in the middle.  Many people find that these saddle stools are more comfortable and unique looking.

One last feature that you should look out for is a swivel.  Some kitchen stools have swivels, and some do not.  A swivel allows the stool to turn in place.  The feet remain in the same place, but the top portion turns.  The key advantage of having swivel kitchen bar stools is that they are easier to get in and out of than ones without this feature.  You just spin around, and step off onto ground.  In addition, you don’t have to slide the stool across the floor, which saves your kitchen floor wear and tear.
